Your Name/what you go by: metro
AIM/E-mail/contact info - some way of reaching you: strings4ttached (AIM), b.daylight@gmx.net (e-mail), b.daylight@hotmail.com (MSN)
Your character's name (last, first): Sohma, Kyo
Series your character's from: Fruits Basket
Background info on your character:

So, long ago there was some ancient Chinese legend about how the Zodiac animals came along. It goes like this: One day god invited all the animals to a banquet -- that is, the twelve animals in the zodiac today, and the cat. But the Rat, who was very sneaky, tricked the Cat into not going and then rode to the banquet on the Ox's back, thus arriving first. Because the Cat wasn't at the banquet, it was never included in the zodiac and thus forever remains an outcast.

Now, fast-forward a couple hundred years and you get present-day Tokyo -- it is 1999, the year of the rabbit. Tohru Honda, a fifteen-year-old girl, has lost her mother and, through a series of unfortunate circumstances, is forced to live in a tent. Through another string of unforseen events, she ends up as houseguest and then live-in housekeeper to a classmate, Yuki Sohma. Yuki is good-looking, smart, polite, and all-around perfect; he lives with his cousin Shigure, a writer. As the story progresses, Tohru meets more of the Sohma family members and discovers several dark secrets within the seemingly prestigious, powerful clan.

The most important, all-ecompassing one is the fact that thirteen members of the family are subject to a curse that has existed for centuries. That is, they are each assigned one of the animals of the zodiac -- plus the Cat; whenever one of the cursed people (called eto or jyuunishi) are embraced by a person of the opposite sex, they transform into "their" animal. Yuki is the Rat, Shigure is the Dog, and Kyo Sohma -- who comes to live with them shortly after Tohru does -- is the Cat.

Kyo generally appears to be brash, easily angered, and someone who hits first and thinks later. The first time we see him, he bursts in through the roof of Tohru's room and challenges Yuki to a fight; and loses horribly. He's loud, emotional, and not at all friendly, but all that's a show. Once you look past the bravado and the gruffness and his distinct lack of social skills, you will see a lonely, insecure boy who's desperate for acceptance.

If the normal jyuunishi are cursed, Kyo is twice that. The Cat, forever the outcast, has a second cursed form, which he transforms into only on rainy days, if the bead bracelet he's wearing on his right wrist is taken off. This form is monstrous and hideous and smells terrible, like something rotting. It is also the reason he is ostracized by the rest of the clan; since Kyo was little, he's been told that he's a monster, that he's bad, that he doesn't belong. His mother died when he was little; it is alleged that the stigma of being the Cat's mother drove her to suicide. His father abandoned him, calling him an "it" and a "monster." He did find a loving surrogate father in his martial arts teacher, Kazuma Sohma, but even so, his life still sucked. Unlike the rest of the jyuunishi, who are members of the Inner House, Kyo remains on the Outside, and is constantly treated badly because of his curse. The Cat's fate, ultimately, is to be locked in a small room in the Sohma compound for the rest of his days, and that fate will inevitably befall Kyo as well -- unless he can beat Yuki in a fight by the end of high school. (Unfortunately, Yuki is perfect and talented at everything and despite being a determined as well as skilled fighter, Kyo can't compare to him.)

Anyway, it turns out that after all those years of being hated by... pretty much everybody but one or two people, what Kyo needed most was some heartfelt affection, which is exactly what Tohru gave him. Even upon finding out about his monstrous form -- an event he was terrified of -- she didn't leave his side. This has helped Kyo grow and get over his traumatic past, and perhaps even learn to love himself a little.

Kyo is still brash and loud, and has a hair-trigger temper, but he's also, fundamentally, a good kid. He just has trouble expressing himself and reacting appropriately to kind gestures, or to things like people crying, etc. But he's also fun to be around, because he's fairly transparent and emotional, and it's easy to elicit fun reactions out of him. He has no trouble making friends with people, but getting really close terrifies him because he's afraid of rejection, and deeply insecure. He hates the monstrous part of himself, and, at least in part, is convinced that the monster is who he is -- years of conditioning will do that to you. Because of this, he finds it hard to commit and love others, as well, even though he desperately wants to be close to other people.

He also has a deep hatred of leeks and often displays cat-like characteristics -- he dislikes getting wet, always lands on his feet (and hands), his hair stands on end when he's angry, etc. Also, rainy days tire him out and tend to leave him drained.
